A Decolonial Perspective on Racism: Diagnosis and Alternatives

Current Latin American approaches to ethnic and racial relations highlight the relevance of employing alternative frameworks for understanding asymmetrical relations of power across the Americas. Based on the Caribbean Fanonian Social Philosophy this talk attempts to offer a decolonial perspective that addresses structural racism.  Actualising a historical perspective, the aura of Fanonian thought articulates notions such as the ‘zone of being’ and the ‘zone of nonbeing’, generating a reconsideration of modern humanism.

Ramón Grosfoguel (Associate Professor, Chicano/Latino Studies, UC Berkeley) is internationally recognized for his work on decolonization of knowledge and power as well as for his work in international migration and political-economy of the world-system. He has been a research associate of the Maison des Science de l'Homme in Paris for many years.
