Harlin/Hayley Steele (they/she/ze/he) is a PhD Candidate in Cultural Studies at UC Davis, earning a dual designated emphasis in Science & Technology Studies (STS) and Performance and Practice. Their research explores intersections between game mechanics, systemic forms of oppression, and data rhetoric in climate modeling. She has served as a project director at UC Davis ModLab, where they guided projects in educational gamemaking. Harlin served as a faculty member in the Department of English at Western Washington University from 2022-23, where they taught literature and creative writing. Prior to coming to UC Davis, ze earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Portland State University.
